How to stay on track when life gets in the way:

We put a lot of pressure on ourselves to be perfect and reach every goal with consistency. It's a great goal to have, but we need to remember that sometimes the pressure we put on ourselves to "get it right" all the time can be extremely discouraging. The whole concept of "I'll start tomorrow" is one of those habits that make us believe that we have to be perfect from the start of the day, all the way through to the end of the day. What I've found to be most effective, is to check in constantly with doing our best with each moment we are given. Taking it moment by moment, instead of grouping it together in days helps us constantly check in with how we can add in nutrients in our meals, and fit movement in between the busyness.
When life gets busy:
Sometimes we run to convenience so we can make it through the day. Whether that's a drive-thru stop so we don't deal with clean up and extra cooking time, or telling ourselves we don't have time for movement when our day is packed up with to-do lists. First of all, give yourself grace for doing your best with your current lifestyle. Second, find ways to implement small changes that'll help you to be more intentional about setting habit changes.
Today instead of running to Starbucks to get my favorite egg white, spinach, and feta wrap with my venti chocolate cream cold brew before my back-to-back workday: I made coffee from home and took the left-over chicken from last night's dinner and added scrambled eggs and veggies to my Tupperware to plan a balanced meal when I do get a break at work. I am celebrating that small step towards the life that I will be proud of.
Yesterday when I needed a rest day after 12 hours of work the day before, I gave myself time to lay down with my favorite tv shows but added a small workout while watching tv midday. I took my resistance ribbon and with my arms Infront of me lightly pulled at the band to add resistance, and the gently lifting one knee at a time to activate my hips, core, and glutes. Was it a perfect sweat inducing, back-to-back workout? No. It wasn't. What it was though, was me setting time aside to move my body and be intentional with giving my body the care it deserves.
Another thing I've been doing in the midst of busyness, is adding walking in wherever I can. Walking is one of the most underrated workouts there is. It's all around amazing for our body, mind, and spirit. I'll consciously park further or take time to walk around somewhere.
Give yourself Grace:
Wherever you are in your fitness or health journey, remember that it's Progress, not perfection. Being kind to ourselves is one of the most important things we can do for our health, and also the most motivating in our goals.
Before you go, I would love to invite you to ask yourself, "What small habit can I implement this week to give myself love and attention?"
With love,
